![]() Managed to engage a couple of gears before it got stuck- so there was a few moments of elation before I realized I was in a whole heap of trouble - Doh! I didn't move the rotating section - I just shoved it in, so the tab was in the groove. Now if you decide to do this - PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE make sure you line up the fork correctly (its not hard) - you can see above there is a groove for the folk to slide down - the fork itself has a rotating section to it that lines up with the protruding tab on the shaft - that once aligned fits into the groove. Up until this point the conversion had been going really well - and my enthusiasm was high - so confronted with my car minus the SMT parts and a shifter fork from the manual I just couldn't resist offering the fork up and changing the gears manually (using the handle attached to the fork) The sharper eyed among you may realize that in this picture, the gearbox is on the floor - there is a reason for this - mainly my incompetence and impatience. Now I must note that I'm not a mechanic - and this is just a story of what I encountered - this is NOT a workshop guide - I will not be held responsible for any damage caused to persons or machines if you use any of this information to do absolutely anything!!! I eventually found a light crash damaged 6sp manual on ebay and took the plunge - I wanted the whole car rather than just the parts as it would be easier to work out what and how thing go on! Obviously I settled for the conversion route. Sell the car privately - The SMT light wouldn't come on for the first 25 miles so might have got away with it - But I'm not that much of an arse so that was ruled out Trade the car in - I really like the car and trade value was bugger all so that was ruled outĢ. Posted on here and Cap kindly gave me a few pointers - however, I was at that point where I didn't really want to spend a fortune on fixing the SMT when I'd continually worry about another part of it going bang.ġ. So for the price MrT would charge for a code read I bought a reader for myself. I'm just trying to purchase SM2 legal parts on the off chance I decide to do all that later.Had my 2003 6sp SMT for last 2 1/2 years - bought it with 12,000 miles on the clock - now has 54,000.Īnyway - about 2 months ago the dreaded SMT light came on - now this was the day that I'd been fearing since I bought it and started reading the forums! I just want to go out there and have fun, and learn how to drive my car. For now, I'll run in the dman™ kart class if they want me to. I thought the chassis and the subframe were the same thing.Įither way, it doesn't matter at this point. The rules allow subframe connectors, but don't mention chassis connectors. I still don't understand the difference between subframe connectors and chassis connectors. Which means my daily driven version of the car, aka my actual streetable version, would handle better than my racing version. It's stupid that I might have to take them off because my car isn't "street modified", but "race modified" with them on. The rules aren't very clear about what's legal and what's not. I know that the Corky's is illegal, because too many people have said so, but if it the car has bracing there from the factory, what are the rules for that? The whole bracing thing is pissing me off, anyway. ![]() Is it illegal if the car normally has a brace in that position. They might get upset at it, but that's what I paid $160 for, right?īut at the same time, I'm not sure that all of the TOM's braces are illegal in SM2. If I had to, I could take it up there before and after every race. I bought a lifetime alignment at Firestone. The alignment doesn't concern me that much. Grumpy, I realize that the braces would pose a whole list of PITA problems.
